SPURS keeper Cesar Sanchez insists he is ready to answer Harry Redknapp's distress call and solve his goalkeeping problem.

Tottenham's number one, Heurelho Gomes, has been guilty of a number of glaring errors that have cost the side dear this season, but Redknapp has vowed to stand by the Brazilian.

However, Spaniard Sanchez insists he is more than capable of stepping in, should the manager decide to drop Gomes, who cost the club £9million from PSV in the summer.

“I am here as a solution for the coach,” said the 37-year-old. “Whether I play or not, I am not going to change. I will keep a smile on my face and be focused on my club duty. But, of course, I like to play.

“I had not played an official game for ages, it was almost six months since I last played for Zaragoza. I have just played reserve games at Tottenham, which is good to keep the rhythm for the competition.”

The former Real Madrid stopper has only made one appearance for the club when he replaced Gomes in the team's Carling Cup victory over Liverpool. But after receiving plenty of support from the home fans, he is eager to have another taste of first-team action.

“I felt weird during my first minutes on the pitch because I was not used to it and even the lights seemed strange to me.

'But the people's warmness was a boost and it was emotional so I want to thank them for their help. They sang my name, something that surprised me a lot because I was an unknown person here.

The fans are passionate here, they help you in hard times and in good too.”
