FIRE crews were called out after 1,000 pallets of polystyrene were found burning on open ground.
Initially two fire engines were called to the incident, at Kingsley Plastics, in Pecks Hill, Nazeing, but an extra engine had to be called as well as a specialist off-road vehicle to tackle the blaze which is being treated as suspicious.
A joint police and fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire which started soon after 9pm, yesterday.
