AN elderly woman has died following a crash outside the Merry Fiddlers Pub, in Fiddlers Hamlet, yesterday afternoon (Thursday, November 6).

The woman, 71, who has yet to be identified by police, was walking across the forecourt of the pub shortly after 4pm when she was apparently struck by a blue Vauxhall Cavalier.

The Cavlier had spun out of control following a collision with a silver Vauxhall Corsa, near to the Stewards Green Road crossroad with Coopersale Street.

Paramedics attended and treated the woman but she died at the scene of her injuries.

Three firecrews from Epping, Loughton and Harlow were called to the scene.

She sustained serious leg injuries and her passenger, a five-year-old boy, suffered head injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

The driver of the silver Corsa, a 69-year-old woman, from Ilford, was uninjured.

Following the crash, the Vauxhall Cavalier hit the front of the pub causing structural damage and damaging a parked black Citroen.

A spokesman for Essex Police confirmed that a 52-year-old local woman has been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving while being over the drink drive limit.

She has been released on police bail until December 11 pending further enquiries.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Chigwell Road Policing Unit on 01279 621 804.

A spokesman for the Merry Fiddler pub declined to comment stating that the staff were still busy cleaning up after the incident.

following comments of the above article by isabel jenson, regarding the things that have been written, is completly wrong.
I know for a fact that the collison didnt happen at the crossroads as stated!
The lady of the car didnt have to be cut free, but did substain seriou leg injuries and head, which in fact the 5yr old boy didnt obstaine only scratches and bruises.
And as there is still enquries and investigations still going on how can PC Madnessville leave comments like that, when no one knows the full story to what happened as people still have not given statments or been questioned!!
