A MILKMAN who was making a delivery to a primary school had to jump from his vehicle when it caught fire.
Flames consumed the milkfloat at around 7.15am this morning in the playground of Avon House School on Woodford High Road, South Woodford.
Most of the milk was saved from the vehicle, but much of it had turned to cheese in the heat by the time firefighters arrived.
The blaze, which was quickly brought under control by the Green Watch at Woodford Fire Station, is believed to been caused by a fault with one of the vehicle's batteries.
Firefighter Paul Barrett said: "No-one was hurt, and it was a pretty small fire, so we didn't take very long to put it out."
