WALTHAMSTOW: Stabbing victim named

10:57am Monday 25th August 2008

THE 18-year-old stabbed to death yesterday in Walthamstow has been named as Charles Junior 'CJ' Hendricks.

His grandmother, Weda Campbell, has told reporters: "He was supposed to go to college in September. He wanted to be a mechanic. He was a very good boy. He was a beautiful boy.

"I am telling you this from my heart, not because he was my grandson."

The police have repeated their appeal for witnesses to the killing at about 1.40am when officers on routine patrol noticed two or three men or youths running away from the grassed area off Selborne Road and behind the town square.

They then discovered Mr Hendricks suffering from a stab wound. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

DCI John Sandlin, who is leading the inqury, said: "I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the murder to please contact police with any information you may have.

"The incident happened close to a well lit bus garage.

"Did you see several males in the grass area near to the bus garage and close to Selborne Walk Shopping Centre? Did you see anyone run away from the scene?"

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 3715 or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Two men were arrested near the scene. A 19-year-old and a 17-year-old are being questioned by police. The younger man was treated for a minor slash wound on the arm before being taken into custody for questioning.
