TEENAGE hotshot Danielle Carter's dream of world cup glory is over after narrow semi-final defeat to the eventual winners.
Danielle,15, who trains at Leyton Orient Girls' Centre of Excellence, has been one of the stars of the Under-17 women's world cup, scoring twice against Brazil in the first round and converting a penalty in a tense shoot out victory over Japan.
England reached the semi-final of the competition in New Zealand, but lost 2-1 to a strong North Korea side, who have an unbeaten record in youth football.
Danielle's mum Valerie said: "England were the underdogs in this competition. Both Germany and Japan were the favourites to get to the final.
"When I was watching England take penalties against Japan my legs were wobbling. I felt nervous for all the girls and when Danielle stepped up to take her penalty I was just hoping she would score.
"I was delighted when she did and was pleased for all the girls that they won. Football is a team sport so I was pleased for the team as a whole."
Valerie said there will be little rest for Danielle when she gets home to Leytonstone because she will be sitting her GCSE exams soon.
She added: "Her headteacher says it was a good experience for her to learn how to be a professional footballer on the world stage.
"All her family is really proud of her. Her brother Liam has enjoyed watching her on TV but will glad to see her in person when she gets back."
North Korea opened the scoring against England when Ho Un Byol's shot beat Lauren Davy at the near post after 19 minutes.
Jon Myong Hwa scored a minute before half-time to double the lead.
England grabbed a consolation goal after Rebecca Jane's effort eluded Hong Myong Hui in the North Korea goal.
England finished fourth after losing to Germany 3-0 in the third place playoff.
North Korea went on to win the competition by beating USA 2-1 after extra time in a thrilling final.
