I WAS horrified to read about Harry Potter books being destroyed by a charity shop worker.
This has sad overtones of the Nazis and ‘Crystal Night’. Do these people – who say they are Christians – not introduce their children to such classics as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow Queen, Wizard of Oz, Water Babies, to name just a few.
Children’s stories have always been about fairies, witches, wizards, elves, etc. That’s the wonder of childhood.
Harry Potter is just the latest in this genre. If a religious faith is so fragile that they cannot let children read books that stir their imaginations, then perhaps they need to look closer at their own beliefs.
