I AGREE with Scott Whitehead that cycle routes locally are in a terrible state (Letters, October 16).

Broken glass is everywhere, signs are twisted round the wrong way, and leaves and branches get in the way.

The cycle lanes are ridiculously narrow, badly maintained, and potholes are everywhere. Lanes on Lea Bridge Road put the cyclist between a row of parked cars and thundering lorries.

The cycle route through the underpass where Woodford New Road meets the North Circular (Waterworks Corner) is a filthy disgrace.

This council is no friend of cycling or cyclists.

Mary Johnson, Warner Road, Walthamstow.
