I must express my sadness at death of an inspirational councillor

LIKE many others in the locality, I was shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely death of Cllr John Beanse.

I first knew him through schools in Hertfordshire and when I started out as a teacher nearly 20 years ago, he gave me advice and tips which have helped ever since.

I was also privileged to see John in action in the classroom where he was an inspirational teacher who captivated the attention of students with his sharp mind and witty personality.

As a teacher of modern languages, he was also a tireless organiser of partnerships and exchanges as a means of promoting international friendship and understanding.

All the tributes paid to him in recent weeks apply equally well to his work in schools: dedicated; hard-working; well-liked by students, parents and colleagues.

His passing is a great loss to the local Liberal Democrats and to our area as a whole.
