DESPITE declaring to the media that he wont “buy big” the latest press speculation claims Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could launch a fresh bid to secure Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Paper reports claim the Gunners have previously agreed personal terms with the Spanish international, although were put off by the Merseysiders £16million valuation.

But after possible target Gokham Inler declared yesterday that he wants to stay at Udinese, Wenger may have to change his stance and return to Anfield with a fresh bid for Alonso.

And that would certainly keepkey-midfielder Cesc Fabregas happy after he urged his manager to sign his fellow countryman at the weekend.

“I’d love it,” Fabregas told the Telegraph. “What can I say? He’s my friend but apart from that he’s a professional. He’s a great passer of the ball, he works hard defensively, he’s scoring goals now. For me it would be perfect.

“He has experience. He has won the Champions League, he has got to another Champions League final, he’s a European champion and he’s only 26.

“Of course, right now we are competitive but maybe in the middle we need somebody who can make some competition, who can add another dimension. I think that’s all we need really. All the rest is fine.”

this article serves to highlight the hypocrisy in the media when it comes to LFC! we are told that arsenal have agreed personal terms with alonso BEFORE agreeing a fee with the reds (surely an illegal approach?) and how fabregas wants his best mate at the emirates. how is this different from our approach for barry? except we did not speak with the player. the outcry in the press when gerrard said he wanted GB to sign for us was deafening! contrast this to the efforts being made on behalf of the mancs by the media to get berbatov to OT and how quickly they`ve withdrawn Levys hero status for standing his ground over keane and berbatov!
